WELCOME TO THE
PIANO DEPARTMENT
ACOUSTIC PIANOS
Since its beginning, Weathers Music Corp. has offered many brands of acoustic pianos to the musical public, but since 1967 our major piano line has been Yamaha. The Japanese engineer Torakusu Yamaha built his first piano in 1900 after careful study of European instruments imported by Japan during the late 19th century. Since that time, Yamaha has grown to be the industry's largest manufacturer of pianos, with instruments respected worldwide. (see www.yamaha.com
Acoustic pianos are manufactured in two basic body types:
Grand Pianos, with horizontal strings. Grands shorter than 6' in length (measuring from front of keys to back of tail) are sometimes called "baby" grands, but the industry generally classifies all grands simply by length.
Vertical Pianos, with vertical strings, fall into four categories:
Spinets, approximately 36" tall
Consoles, 40-42" tall
Studio Uprights, 45-46" tall
Professional Uprights, 48" tall and higher

A well-made piano can be fully functional for several generations if positioned and maintained properly. Five dangers to piano longevity are moisture, extreme temperatures, moths, mice, and abusive playing. String tension (tuning) will naturally loosen over time, so periodic tuning is necessary to keep the piano at proper pitch. Most piano owners prefer annual tunings, but greater or lesser intervals is acceptable, depending on age, usage and player standards. (se www.ptg.org, Piano Tuners' Guild, for additional service information)
Weathers Music Corp. provides a complimentary tuning along with 90-day service warranty with the sale of all used pianos. New Yamaha pianos are covered by a complete 10-year Service Bond which includes two complimentary tunings and a regulation during the first year of ownership.
As well as new instruments, Weathers Music Corp. also maintains a stock of pre-owned pianos of various body types, finishes, and manufacturers. Used instruments have all been examined, repaired or refurbished as needed. All pianos come with appropriate benches. (Call 503-362-8708 for current inventory and prices)
Certain spinets and consoles may be rented from Weathers Music Corp. at $35 and $45 per month respectively. Delivery and Return fees are collected at time of rental. In certain cases, rental monies can accumulate as a rebate toward piano ownership.
Weathers Music also offers a select group of pianos on consignment. (Call 503-362-8708 for information about consigning) You may also email our Keyboard Department pianos@weathersmusic.com (click the contact button bellow) with questions about sales, rentals, consigning or service.
DIGITAL PIANOS
It is only fitting that the World leader in acoustic pianos, Yamaha, should be the pioneering leader in the development and manufacturing of digital electronic pianos also. First introduced in 1959, Yamaha's "Clavinova" line of digital pianos has found wide-ranging acceptance in home, school, church, and recording applications. (See (see www.yamaha.com
Clavinova models (all 88-key) come in two different lines: *The "CLP" line, featuring realistic piano sound and touch. *The "CVP" line, with the samerealistic piano sound and touch, but with on-board sequencinf (recording) and rhythm arranging.
For the budget-conscious, Yamaha offers many of the same features in portable models.
